Ode to Brazil, 2024

For two private clients (The Netherlands), I painted a wide, built-in bedroom cupboard.

Could I convey the atmosphere of the Brazilian Jungle they visit every year? I designed a pattern inspired by the travel photos and my own Monstera plants. On practice plates, I tested the material, how to deal with runners (dripping paint) on a straight vertical surface. Their old cat died and was given a place of honor at the bottom right.

The Hebbelijk foundling project, 2024-2025

Commissioned by photographer Noortje Schmit, I wrote a text about her ancestor, Geertruida Hebbelijk, who was abandoned in Amsterdam in 1841. I conducted conversations and edited them into a monologue about finding information and the role of photography in historical storytelling. I was her ghostwriter. I also wrote seven poems for a selection of her photos.
