Take a break when you are writing
October 22, 2024Who wrote that? Take a break when you are writing. Well, when I think of my day yesterday as a writer, I have to say that the day flew by… I love this Dutch expression. One can see the hours running as grains of sand through the hour glass. But why was my day so flowy and productive? I wrote many pages, took little breaks, went outside for walks in between computer writing, and even had the energy in the evening to read and start a new painting.
I think it could be explained by my decision to start using a digital device again, a helper. I don’t want to be that blogger that secretly pushes products so I won’t mention the name.
So I have a helper. A little helper telling me that I should stand up, pull back my chair behind the computer and move around. Stretch my legs. Rest my eyes. Think of something else, something totally different from the topic I was working on.
Every 25 minutes a little bell sound tells me to take a break. There is an option to change this number, of how long one likes to work, and the duration of these breaks. Mine is set to 5 and I find it enough.
It is interesting since I used it before, maybe six months ago. Then I found myself becoming a little bit… what is the word… depended on the thing. Anyway, for now it seems to work, yesterday was a bliss and I am already looking forward to this day.
